The Fond du Lac Area Human Resources Association and the Fond du Lac Area Safety Council, divisions of the Fond du Lac Area Association of Commerce, have teamed up to host an eye-opening presentation to help illustrate the prevalence and impact of drugs in the Fond du Lac area. While depictions of El Chappo via the media or television shows like “Narcos” may seem surreal, the fact is that the reality of drug production and distribution around the globe has a very real and profound impact on our local community.
“The prevalence of drug use in our community is cause for alarm. There is a direct impact on business operations and educational success when drug use enters the picture,” said Melissa Worthington, Fond du Lac Area Association of Commerce vice president. “Shedding light on what the reality of the situation is and arming co-workers, parents, teachers and others with information will directly impact the hold drug use had on this community.”
The “Spotlight on the Reality of Drugs in our Community” event will be held on Thursday, March 30 at the Holiday Inn in Fond du Lac. Federal Bureau of Investigation Intelligence Analyst John Kumm will discuss the global and national scope of drug production and the resulting trafficking into the State of Wisconsin. City of Fond du Lac Chief of Police Bill Lamb and Detective Scott Krause will outline the trafficking of drugs from Chicago into our local community, along with the drug trends they have experienced historically and what to expect in the future. City of Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue Assistant Chief Todd Janquart will offer the final presentation on what drug addiction and overdose looks like in individuals and the impact on local businesses and educational institutions. A brief question and answer panel with all presenters will be offered at the end of the session.
This event is open to the community with business representatives, educators, first responders and residents encouraged to attend. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. with speakers following at 8:00 a.m. A light breakfast will be provided. Registration is $10 for HR Association and Safety Council members, and $15 general admission.
