Team Reflection: Developed a “basic needs” closet for the Boys and Girls Club of Fond du Lac. Numerous “collection sites” were established throughout the community in order to obtain more than 1000 items, such as shampoo, conditioner, lotions, toothpaste and soap. The staff of the Boys and Girls Club will maintain the “Suds Club” closet.
Team Diverse Energy: Created a mentorship program focusing on life skills for students attending Fondy Central. The goal was to better prepare students for life after graduation. The 9-month curriculum now consists of job readiness, healthy living, housing needs, personal finance, education and community involvement. Local volunteers will continue to present the curriculum to students.
Team Lakeside Rescue: Worked with local artists and volunteers to enhance the quality of the Lakeside Park pavilion and restrooms. With the goal of beautifying the pavilion and making the restrooms “family friendly” this project resulted in fresh and appealing updates and additions. This project included painting the walls, ceiling and bathroom stalls, restored stained sinks, improving the lighting fixtures and installing infant changing stations in the women’s and men’s bathroom. Additionally murals were painted in the bathrooms and on the stage walls of the pavillion.
Team S.P.L.A.T.T (Supporting People Long After Today into Tomorrow): Revamped the playground area at the Solutions Center, which included expanding and reconfiguring the play area to provide adequate space for a playground system. The new area now includes seating area for moms so that they can safely watch their children. Playground equipment for children 6-24 months old was purchased and the area was cleared of brush and old landscaping.
Team Horizon: Established a low vision center within the assisted living facility of Lutheran Homes and Health Services (LHHS). This project provided LHHS with a CCTV, computer with iZoom computer screen magnification software, varying hand-held magnifiers, max TV viewing spectacles and various recreational devices such as large print playing cards, BINGO, needle threader and more. Additionally, Team Horizon partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of Fond du Lac to establish a social mentoring program in which teens offer reading assistance and companionship for residents.
