Sunny weather made for a great crowd at the Fifth Annual Fond du Lac Agriculture Showcase on March 1 at the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds. Over 1,800 consumers and producers visited the event sponsored by the Fond du Lac Agri-Business Council, Agri-Land Co-op and the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board. The Indy racecar was the highlight of the event. Hundreds took advantage of the opportunity to sit in a real racecar. The display included information about the growing ethanol industry. At the booths, attendees visited with company representatives to learn about their operations and businesses. Cheese, wine and microbrew sampling were also part of the event. Chef demonstrations drew large crowds. Thank you to Trepanier’s Backyard Grill & Bar, Linstrom’s Special Occasion Catering and Fond du Latte, and Fond du Lac Seafood Co. for sharing their talents. Alice in Dairyland Jill Makovec presented “Building a Healthy Wisconsin,” with assistance from kids in the audience. The program promotes Wisconsin agricultural products and healthy foods. A special Kids Activity Booth was a big hit. Hands-on activities such as dirt cups, smoothies and buttons showed youth great aspects of agriculture. Almost 100 children participated in the coloring contest. The top three winners in each category will receive a cash prize. Thank you to sponsors Agri-Land Co-op, Badgerland Farm Credit Services and WE Energies. Congratulations to the winners: ages 1-5 years: 1. Mara Trewin, 2. Nicolas Stenholt, 3.
